Jhering, Rudolf von
(22 ago. 1818, Aurich, Hannover–17 sep. 1892, Gotinga, Alemania).

Jurista alemán. Enseñó derecho romano en Giessen (1852–68), Gotinga (a partir de 1872) y en otras cuatro universidades (entre ellas la Universidad de Viena) por períodos más breves. Examinó la relación entre el derecho y el cambio social en El espíritu del derecho romano (1852–65) y entre intereses individuales y sociales en El fin en el derecho (1877–83). Sostenía que el objeto del derecho es proteger los intereses individuales y sociales coordinándolos y de ese modo reduciendo al mínimo las ocasiones de conflicto. A veces se lo llama el padre de la jurisprudencia sociológica.
